The temporary school building is based on a fully reversible joint system using a hybrid clamp principle. Split wooden supports are fixed to an HEA-450 steel profile, which enables modular expansion, creates support for the wooden beams, and integrates tensioning and bracing elements as well as the foundation. By structurally separating steel and timber, the wooden elements remain free of nails and screws, ensuring durability and reversibility even through repeated assembly and disassembly.

Designed for the inner courtyard of the Pestalozzi School in Munich, the building follows two key principles: the floor plan is derived from the minimum dimensions of a sports hall, and the structural footprint is minimized through point foundations. The ground-floor gym is conceived as an uninsulated outdoor space, accessible during breaks and leaving the courtyard unchanged once the structure is removed. The inner courtyard will thus retain its use and spatial quality regardless of the temporary structure. Classrooms are located above the gym and accessed via a suspended steel structure enclosed by a ventilated, translucent polycarbonate facade. Generous walkways function as circulation and social space, serving as galleries and break areas. Despite the minimised structural footprint, the generous suspended construction creates a feeling of spaciousness. Three classrooms per floor can be flexibly expanded via smaller seminar rooms or opened entirely. A total of three distinct zones are created. The uninsulated sports hall, the circulation as a buffer zone and the insulated classrooms.

The flexibility of the basic design, combined with the deliberately reduced footprint, sets out a fundamental approach to temporary construction. The temporary structure is designed so that it can also be rebuilt in other locations, with the minimalist design not seeking to conceal the temporary nature of the building, but rather consciously using it as a design tool and thus turning it into a strength.
